Home School Communication
AGENDA PLANNERS
Our PTA provides all students in first through fifth grades with student agendas to be used in class daily. All homework assignments should be written in these agendas. Parents are asked to check and sign or initial their child's agenda on a regular basis. More details will be provided by the classroom teacher and through our parent newsletter.
PARENT CONTACT FOLDERS
Each student, Kindergarten through Fifth grade will receive a turquoise Parent Contact Folder a minimum of every three weeks. The folder is intended to provide communication between school and home. The Contact Folders will inform parents of their child's achievement, classroom performance and behavior. The Accelerated Reader (AR) goal progress is also reported for grades two through five. Parents are encouraged to communicate any questions or concerns to the teacher by writing a note in this folder.
FRIDAY FOLDERS
These white envelopes come home every Friday with all of our students. This envelope is durable and can last the entire year. However, replacements are available in the main office for a nominal fee. Friday folders are intended to carry all of the Walden Lake, Hillsborough County Schools and Plant City community flyers that we send home. Please remove all of the flyers each week, sign your child's Friday Folder and return it to school each Monday.
SCHEDULING CONFERENCES
Conferences between teacher and parent are an important part of a successful education. In addition to the prescheduled Fall and Spring conference evenings, parents are encouraged to request a teacher conference in writing or by calling the school to schedule an appointment. In order to take advantage of every teaching minute that your child is with us, we stress the importance of setting up an appointment rather than dropping by. Teachers have a responsibility to the student in their classroom beginning at 7:30 am and ending at 2:15. Conferences are typically scheduled between 2:30 and 3:05 on a mutually agreed upon date.
CLASSROOM VISITATIONS
During American Education Week, all classrooms have classroom visitations where parents are invited to join in classroom activities and then eat lunch with their child. We encourage all parents to be involved in their child's education. Other than American Education Week, please call your child's teacher to set up a convenient time for you to come in for classroom visitation or observation. Some activities lend themselves to visitation and others do not. In order for you to get the most out of your visit, please call ahead of time.
PARENT INPUT FORMS
Parent Input Forms are available in the main office of every Hillsborough County Public School. These forms give parents the opportunity to provide positive comments and useful suggestions.
SCHOOL MARQUEE
Walden Lake publicizes all of our upcoming events on our school marquee daily. Take special note of our upcoming events when you drive by.
POSITIVE POSTCARDS
During the course of each school year, Walden Lake staff sends postcards to all of our students to let them know what a great job they are doing here at school. Keep up the good work!
SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL (SAC)
Each school is required to have a School Advisory Council. The SAC team is made up of parents, teachers and business partners and meets on a monthly basis. The purpose of this group is to review data from previous school years, develop a school improvement plan, implement the plan and assess its success. The SAC has a budget provided by the Florida Department of Education of $10 per child. The SAC also aids in the decision making process for school recognition money expenditures.
PARENT/TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA)
Walden Lake has an active PTA. Please see more information about our PTA on their portion of our website.
